Actor Tony Todd, known for starring in Candyman and the Final Destination films, has died. He was 69.
The news was confirmed by his wife Fatima, who revealed that Todd passed away while at his home in Marina del Rey, Calif. on Wednesday, Nov. 6. Todd’s wife said he died after a “long illness,” though no further details about his specific cause of death have been released at this time.
“The industry has lost a legend. We have lost a cherished friend,” New Line Cinema, which produced the Final Destination franchise, wrote in a statement on Instagram.
In addition to Final Destination, Todd was also known for another horror franchise, Candyman, starring as the eponymous hook-wielding ghost in the 1992 film, as well as the 1995 sequel, Candyman: Farewell to the Flesh.
He also appeared in the 2021 remake produced by Jordan Peele. More of Todd’s extensive acting credits include his film debut in 1986’s Sleepwalk, and appearances in 1990’s Night of the Living Dead, 1996’s The Rock, 1994’s The Crow, 2006’s Hatchet, 2015’s Frankenstein, 2019’s Candy Corn and many, many more.
