Jonathan Majors recently expressed his disappointment after Marvel Studios chose Robert Downey Jr. to play Dr. Doom in the upcoming ‘Avengers’ movies.
Majors, known for his portrayal of Kang the Conqueror in ‘Loki’ and ‘Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania,’ was originally set to be a major villain in future Marvel films.
The announcement came during San Diego Comic-Con on July 27, 2024, where Marvel revealed that Downey, beloved for his role as Iron Man, would take on the iconic character of Dr. Doom.
This shift means that Majors’ Kang, who was expected to be the central antagonist in ‘Avengers: The Kang Dynasty’ and ‘Avengers: Secret Wars,’ is being sidelined.
In a candid interview with TMZ on July 30, Majors didn’t hold back his emotions. He admitted to being “heartbroken” by Marvel’s decision but remained optimistic about his future with the franchise.
“Yeah, heartbroken. I love Kang,” Majors shared, showing his affection for the character. When asked if he would consider reprising his role if the opportunity arose, he responded with enthusiasm: “If that’s what the fans want, if that’s what Marvel wants, let’s roll.”
