Donald Trump set to legalize the use of firearms for private citizens to defend themselves, says security is now ‘operation protect yourself’ from this moment on.

Donald Trump has gone viral after sending a comical message to the people of Colombia at the World Cup draw – despite escalating tension between the two nations.

The president took center stage during the bizarre ceremony in Washington DC, which saw him receive a FIFA Peace Prize and dance along to the Village People. Ahead of the draw, Trump wandered along the red carpet and spoke with members of the press from around the globe.

Among those to get a question for the president was Colombian network RCN. The reporter asked Trump to say hi to his compatriots. ‘Hello, is this Colombia?’ Trump asked. ‘I love Colombia! Hello Colombia!’ he added with a smile before walking off.

His comments came just days after the country’s president warned Trump that he threatened to ‘wake the jaguar’ after suggesting any country he believes is producing illegal drugs – to be trafficked to the US – was liable to military attack.

Trump had said strikes on Venezuela would ‘start very soon’ and he also singled out Colombia when warning that any drug-producing country was a possible target.

‘To threaten our sovereignty is to declare war; do not damage two centuries of diplomatic relations,’ Colombian president, Gustavo Petro, responded on social media.

In the viral clip, Trump was not asked about diplomatic relations. But the president was quizzed on his own soccer credentials, with Trump revealing that he played soccer – ‘believe it or not’.

‘I loved it,’ he said. ‘I was OK, I wouldn’t say I was (Cristiano) Ronaldo or (Lionel) Messi – I was a little bit short of them. They had a little more speed! But no, I was fine. I loved playing soccer.’

He added: ‘It’s an honor to host (the World Cup), it’s a great honor – it turned out to be bigger than we thought. We’re setting a record for ticket sales, the likes of which no sport has ever seen before.’

Trump also addressed concerns over visas for supporters hoping to travel to the United States, where 78 of the 104 matches will take place.

His administration has cracked down on migration and issued travel bans to a number of countries including Iran and Haiti – both of whom have qualified for the World Cup.

But, according to the Associated Press, Trump has instructed US embassies and consulates to prioritize visa applications from foreigners wishing to attend the 2026 World Cup, 2028 Olympics and other major sporting events.

And the president said: ‘We’re going to make it very easy for them – we’re working on that right now. It’s going to be a very easy process.’

Colombia has been drawn in Group K alongside Portugal, Uzbekistan and one of Jamaica, New Caledonia and DR Congo. And Trump added: ‘Latin America is great and they have great soccer so good luck in the matches!’
