Just In: Travis Kelce Officially Steps Away From The NFL, Says His Mental Health Comes First As He Shifts Focus To Making Taylor Swift Happy

The Kansas City Chiefs 2025 season continued to spiral in Sunday’s blowout loss to the Tennessee Titans.

Not only was Kansas City, who dropped to 6-9 with the loss, outplayed by one of the NFL’s bottom dwellers, but tension between teammates and another devastating quarterback injury added a new element of hurt to the Chiefs’ disastrous campaign.

After Chiefs running back Kareem Hunt was tackled in his own end zone for a safety early in the second quarter, two Kansas City offensive linemen, Creed Humphrey and Trey Smith, became enraged and delivered a stern message to their teammates upon returning to the sideline.

“Wake the f— up, wake the f— up,” screamed both Humphrey and Smith. It comes a week after Travis Kelce made a mockery of NFL policy with an 11-word statement in the heat of the moment

It is unclear if the harsh instruction was directed at anyone in particular, given that several players looked to be at fault for the safety. Star tight end Kelce was among those visually frustrated after Titans defensive tackle Jeffery Simmons rushed straight through the Chiefs’ offensive line to take down Hunt in his own end zone.

Kelce, who looks increasingly likely to retire at the end of this season, is playing out of pride after the Chiefs were eliminated from playoff contention and star quarterback Patrick Mahomes suffered a torn ACL against the Los Angeles Chargers last Sunday.

Considered one of, if not the greatest, tight end in NFL history, Kelce’s playing career could be coming to a sad close if he chooses to hang up his cleats this offseason.

To make matters even worse, Chiefs backup quarterback Gardner Minshew suffered a torn ACL, the same injury as Mahomes, forcing third-stringer Chris Oladokun into the game.

A three-time Super Bowl champion and future Hall of Famer, Kelce likely didn’t envision his playing career coming to a close with a third-choice quarterback throwing him passes in meaningless games.

Despite only trailing 2-0 after the safety, the Chiefs were outfought by the Titans, who won the game 26-9 to improve to 3-12 on the season.

2024 No. 1 overall pick Cam Ward had one of the best games of his rookie season, throwing for 228 yards and two touchdowns.
