Katie Holmes said she’s protective of her teenage daughter, Suri, who grew up with paparazzi watching her every move.

“What has been really important for me with my daughter, because she was so visible at a young age, is I really like to protect her,” Holmes, who rarely speaks about her 16-year-old daughter in interviews, added that she is “grateful” to be Suri’s mother.

“She’s an incredible person,” Holmes, 44, said. The public’s obsession with Suri blossomed from her parents’ — Holmes and Tom Cruise — unconventional relationship.

The desire to know more about the now-teen skyrocketed when the actor and actress’ marriage fell apart in 2011.

Cruise, 60, began to distance himself from his daughter following the couple’s divorce, and their relationship still hasn’t recovered to this day.
